Ramsey, Esq., a franchise lawyer with Kaufmann Gildin & Robbins LLP, presented to the Greater NY Chamber of Commerce about “How to Legally Franchise Your Business Format to Expand Outlets of Your Business.” David explained what is franchising; gave examples of successful franchises started in the greater New York region; provided a broad overview of the law of franchising; and described federal and state franchise registration and disclosure laws. He summarized legal requirements about creating, registering, and using a Franchise Disclosure Document; basic rules about making financial performance representations to prospective franchisees who may want to purchase a franchise; gave a recent example of franchise law as applied in New York; and, answered various questions from the audience.
